The Pedra da Gávea Trail is located within the Tijuca National Park. The hike takes place in the Atlantic Forest. It is considered a moderate to strenuous trail, taking an average of 3 hours to reach the summit. There is a short climbing section, known as the Carrasqueira, rated as level 1. Our certified guides will provide all the necessary safety equipment — ropes, harnesses — and give complete instructions to ensure a safe experience.
The sign at the beginning of the trail reads: “The Carrasqueira of Pedra da Gávea is a first-degree climb with high exposure. High rate of accidents, including fatal ones.” Many people venture onto the trail without a guide or safety equipment, and often end up trapped at the top of the mountain, requiring rescue.
